Tyranids

Sparky's Tyranids
Warhammer 40000

When we started discussing this whole thing I already had a poll going at our local club where I was letting the club decide what I should paint. Despite all my begging for people to vote Orks, Tyranids were the winning army. So Tyranids is what I must now paint. The biggest motivator for me when it comes to painting is usually a deadline. I do have to like the army somewhat as well though.

I was enthralled with Tyranids for a while back in 3rd and 4th edition 40k. The love of the models stemmed from Space Hulk, both the board game and the old video game. That’s what got me into Dark Angels actually, but that’s another story. Anyway, I purchased a lot but not many got painted.

A missing gaunt

I was so into Tyranids that when the Inquisitor 52mm scale game came out I went and scratch built a Hormaguant in 52mm scale for the game. It actually turned out really good. So good in fact it was supposed to appear in White Dwarf. On the way to the photography studio though the figure case was stolen. Back then digital cameras were pretty new. The one I had used a 3.5-inch floppy disk! So it never made it into White Dwarf and I don’t even have a photo of my masterpiece. It was around that time that I lost interest with Tyranids.

“If anyone has seen my Inquisitor scale hormagaunt, let me know.”

Now the Tyranid force is just a pile of plastic and metal shoved in a container. As you can see I have a bit of work to do. This month is not going to just be painting. I need to start with some repairs and work out what I can still use. I know there is a couple of old school Hive Tyrants in there somewhere but I figured it was a good excuse to buy a new one anyway. None of those old ones had wings! I also have some Tyranids from Kill Team lying around somewhere so I will use them as well.

Only a week into this and I already feel like I’m behind. Work for me at the moment is crazy as well so finding time to paint is impossible. Hopefully, the Easter long weekend might give me a chance. Holidays and time off work are definitely handy when it comes to painting an army.
