Sparky’s July Results

Warhammer 40000

Well, July has come to an end so it is time to see Sparky’s July results. It seems that Sparky has focused on some characters in July but did he actually get them all finished? Let’s throw it over to Sparky to find out.

My focus for July was always going to be the paint a Primaris Marine challenge. I couldn’t start working on the Marine until the challenge started. But I knew it was coming and thought about it a lot. I spent a lot of time thinking about what my chapter would be called. What my chapter would look like and why. So July involved a lot of thinking about Marines and background without painting.

Some Painting Happened

I started the month painting the Light of Eltharion from the brand new Lumineth Age of Sigmar range. It is such an amazing model that I couldn’t resist grabbing the box set just for this model. I’ll put photos up when he is finally finished but you can see some Eltharion updates on the Instagram page. In July I only got the base coats done before I got distracted with 40k again though.

Distraction came because I was thinking about my Marine chapter. I spent a lot of time reading the background and getting excited about the new rules too. The Necrons have always drawn me in with that living metal feel. So, knowing the Necrons were finally getting some new models with the 9th edition 40k release, I decided to spend some time on a new Necron character. The plan was that would get me through until the new 40k arrived. It would also be a nice addition to my current Necron force.

Illuminor Szeras

Illuminor Szeras is an amazing model. Being a new release it really got me excited. So excited that I actually stopped painting the Light of Eltharion model I had just started working on. The model itself is extremely fiddly to put together. There are a lot of small fragile joins. Taking the time to get it right as you clean and glue this thing is important as it is just so detailed.

A Necron Force Builds

My Necron army has been sitting around for a long time with not much work done on it. I have about 15 models painted in total so far. With the new models and undoubtedly a new codex coming for the next edition of 40k I wanted to get these guys painted. I decided with my Necrons though that they are going to be the army that I just get done. The army that I don’t get caught up too much on the details with and really paint them fast. With that in mind, I’ve gone for a simple metal scheme with a wash and some mottled battle damage. I tried to keep those basics on Szeras as well but did get a little carried away with some of the details. It’s hard not to on this model. So I convinced myself it was ok because he’s a character.

I kept it simple with certain areas like the base and main metal colour so it will fit with the rest of the force. But I added in touches of Blood for the Blood God where I could. I also decide to go for something a little different with the army and used luminescent paint over the green. Not that you will see it a lot but it means these Necrons will glow in the dark!

So Sparky’s July results were a Necron character and the Primaris Marine. I hope he has more planned for August at least. Especially now the new 40k is out!
