August Update
August has been a little bit of a horror month for updates. We have been preparing something special for next month which has kept us occupied. That doesn’t mean the guys haven’t been busy painting though. They have actually been painting more this month as they prepare. So even though it is nearly the end of the month already it’s time for an August Update.
Next month at the local games club Sparky is running a narrative slow grow campaign. For those unsure, a slow grow is a campaign that spans a few months and expands in size of games as it goes. This enables everyone to paint their forces up over time and encourages people to play with painted miniatures. It is much like the tale of four gamers or similar challenges. But it’s open to everyone, with games each month as motivation. If you are interested in joining or want to see the narrative of the campaign unfold check out the War For Novacastrium page or the #Novacastrium.
Campaign Forces
So for the month of August, the guys have all been working on putting together and painting 500 points of 40k. Both Fury and Fairy have decided to turn to the dark gods and are working on Chaos forces. While Sparky has decided to hold true to the Emperor and is working on his new Primaris Space Marine Chapter. With Sparky also running the narrative campaign it’s not surprising he’s playing these guys. I’m sure he’s using this as a way to build his Chapter’s background.
Fury’s Chaos Marines
Fury had a bit of a head start as he devoted himself to Slaanesh many years ago. Unfortunately, we can’t share the tale of how Slaanesh took his soul, or even some of his miniatures, as it is too horrific (in a very Slaanesh way). We can show the amazing Noise Marine Rhino he is working on though.
This thing has a front-mounted speaker and Bluetooth capabilities built-in to connect to his phone. Fury’s Noise Marines will be pumping out their special brand of death metal all game long from this thing when it is done.
In addition to the Rhino boom box, Fury has put the finishing touches on several Chaos units that he intends to field during the campaign.
With over 500 points completed Fury has had time to get in some practice games of 9th edition ready for the campaign. It seems he is favouring the Hellbrute a lot. Especially after it decimated this loyal Marine squad in a recent game. I wonder what he will paint for next month? A second Hellbrute maybe?
Fairy’s Chaos Daemons
Fairy went down a different Chaos path as he dedicated himself to the Changer of Ways. A nice bright Tzeentch army was a welcome change after that dark and brooding Delaque gang.
Fairy is starting from scratch for this one and wants an army that he can use in both Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar. He began assembling this mighty horde at the end of last month. This is an August update and he still isn’t finished. (That’s a lot of daemons!) But he has started painting his 500 points worth.
Going down the Contrast paint path Fairy is making solid progress but still has a mountain of daemons ahead of him. The bases are already a stand out though with that great daemon world feel to them.
Sparky’s Space Marines
Sparky is sticking with his Knights of Tephra colour scheme from last month’s challenge. He has decided to go all in and build the chapter for this campaign.
In addition to the three Indomitus boxes and the Command edition 40k box he grabbed, Sparky also picked up a Start Collecting Vanguard box and some Repulsors. He has his work cut out for him. So far he has only assembled 5 Marines. I wonder what Sparky’s plans for this weekend are?
“Cleaning mould lines, glueing and painting. Now that’s a perfect weekend!”
Fury definitely has the advantage for this August update. I wonder if Fairy and Sparky can get their 500 points finished in time. Do you have 500 points unpainted? Check out how you can join the campaign too!
