Today is all about Adeptus Custodes Command squads. It was supposed to be a post about basing my Dreadnought. The whole week I had been looking forward to getting some gold on that mighty war machine but unfortunately, the weather played havoc with those plans. So, instead, here we are talking about an Adeptus Custodes Command instead.

The plan was to hold off on building these models until either the other squad was completely painted or more models arrived in the post. Admittedly, I could have spent more time painting the other squad today but instead I got distracted. Waiting for paint to dry was getting annoying and as the dreadnought couldn’t be sprayed I decide to build.

A reason for holding off on this unit is because more models are on the way. So a decision about what weapons to build these with was not clear. I wanted to have a look at some options coming in other boxes. Unfortunately, boredom got the better of me. So, for now, they have been built up as Shield-Captain, Vexilus Praetor, and another squad of Custodian Guard. That may change if more models arrive before the end of the month though.

The Force Of Leaders

With this unit built it rounds the force out to have two squads, a HQ choices and a veteran that offers either a nice additional save or a minus one to hit. Depending on which Vexilla gets taken. Now I won’t feel so bad when I put some time into that dreadnought tomorrow.

What I’m really enjoying about the Adeptus Custodes so far is that it really does feel like each miniature is a character. The background explains that each of these guys are mighty warriors and capable leaders. But the way the force goes together helps fit that background as well.

The thought of a small amount of choice in the force selection and a small range of models was a worry at first. Looking at various ways to put these together in the army though really makes you feel like you are choosing elite individuals and just grouping them up. Anyone could indeed step up for a battle and be the leader. Then the next game go back and join his battle-brothers in the line. This month the challenge of Adeptus Custodes is already more enjoyable than last months Tyranids.
