The Winner Is…

Painting Warhammer 40000
The Winner Is...

As you know, last month we had a little friendly challenge here to see who could paint the exact same model. A classic Space Marine captain in terminator armour. As the month went on it became clear some were taking this challenge more seriously than others. Did it pay off though? Well, let’s find out who the winner is.

What started as a friendly challenge for fun soon became serious when the talk of judging started. The hours spent painting began to build throughout the month. With one of the retinue even doing a complete test model and repainting of a shoulder pad. So to keep things fair it was decided that the models would be put up without recognition of who painted which one. Judging would be based on likes that each picture received across all the different social platforms we put them on. And the winner is…

Fairy’s Ultramarine Captain

It is a great paint job by Fairy. One where he came to grips with his airbrush to get that smooth blend everyone was so impressed with. We will have Fairy back later in the week to share his progress shots and tips & tricks.

Overall the voting was actually very close. Many people commented on liking a particular aspect on one model, like the blending Fairy achieved, while in the same comment saying they also liked something else on another model. The Space Wolves face and Salamanders base getting lots of comments. Everyone here was thrilled that each model came out so good while also being so different. But it was a challenge and not everyone can be a winner so a huge congrats to Fairy.

“We are all winners here! Enough of that loser talk.”

– Fairy – upon realising he had won the May 2020 paint off

So in Fairy’s own words there are no losers. The other two are just runners up. But let’s find out who painted what still.

Sparky’s Salamander Captain

Fury’s Space Wolf Captain

Sparky and Fury also gave some new techniques a try. So they will both share progress pics and tips with us later in the week as well. Sparky was also given the win for best photoshop. If you haven’t seen his tip of the hat to yesteryear yet be sure to check out his Instagram account or the last post here.

A lot of comments from this challenge had people wishing they could have joined in. So the team are working on a new challenge that everyone can get involved in. Until then though they also have to start the usual monthly paint a force challenge for June. Check back later in the week to see what everyone is doing for the month.
