Campaign Rules

The War for Novacastrium campaign rules that follow are designed to assist players participating in the campaign for the Novacastrium Sector. The rules are split into three sections. Campaign rules which are designed to guide everyone and then two separate sections for those participating in games held at Newcastle Legions club and for those that decide to play games at home.

The Rules

The War for Novacastrium campaign will run from the beginning of September 2020 through to the end of December 2020. It is designed as a slow grow style narrative campaign that will build in size over this time to enable everyone, new or old, to get their models painted and on to the table.

There will be 4 rounds of the campaign, one for each month.
The rounds and points for games played during that round are as follows:

Round 1 “Vanguard Attack” – September – 500 points – Combat Patrol
Round 2 “REDACTED” – October – 750 points – Incursion
Round 3 “REDACTED” – November 1000 points – Incursion
Round 4 “REDACTED” – December – 1500 points – Strike Force

Games are to be played following the latest 9th edition Warhammer 40,000 rules and any codex or errata at the time of your game.

All games will use battle forged armies and match play rules for the points and sizes of the specific round. For example, Round 1 is a 500 point combat patrol so will have 3 CP to start and use the combat patrol force organisation chart and missions from the rulebook.

As this is a slow grow campaign aimed at encouraging people to paint their armies the rule of the bonus 10 victory points for having your army painted must be claimed if your army is painted. In addition, there may be special bonuses given out at the discretion of Inquisitor Marcazius and the Ordo Motivatus, throughout the campaign. These will reward painted armies and punish unpainted forces.

This is a narrative campaign that will build the story of the Novacastrium Sector here on the 40kHeresy website. Results for all games will add to the overall narrative in a variety of ways depending on where your games are played.

Games played each month at the Newcastle Legions club will have a more direct impact on the narrative and affect the War for Novacastrium in a greater way than those played outside of the club. However, games played outside the club will still add to the overall scope of the narrative.

You can add your own forces personal touch to the narrative using the #Novacastrium on Instagram or Twitter.

At the beginning of each month, a new page for the round will appear here on the website. As the month progresses Imperial scribes will update the campaign progress for that month so you can follow the progress of the War for Novacastrium as it unfolds.

Joining the Campaign at Newcastle Legions

For members of Newcastle Legions that can attend club meets on the first Sunday of each month you will be able to organise your games and opponents via the Facebook event through the club.

On the day Inquisitor Marcazius will open an online poll for you to register your results or give them to him to register. Results from the games at the club must be logged that day. They will directly impact the fate of the planets and sector.

You must fight for one of the following sides on the day.
Imperial
Chaos
Xenos
The side you fight for will be determined by your army. For any ambiguous armies, I’m looking at you Dark Angels Fallen, Inquisitor Marcazius will determine your worth to the Emperor.

You may play as many games as you like during the day but must fight for the same side all day.

As the campaign progresses those that are playing games at the club will see the impact of the narrative through a variety of ways such as additional Command Points or access to stratagems. This information will be revealed as the narrative progresses.

Joining the Campaign from Home

For players that can’t make it to the club for a particular month and still wish to take part you can. Some players who attend the club days may also just want to play more games during the month. You can do that too!

To take part outside of the club days simply organise your own opponent and make sure that your games follow the requirement for points in the given month you are playing. From the beginning of September, a submission form will be here on the website for you to register your results.

When playing games outside of the club your results will still have an impact on the narrative of the campaign but will not have a major impact on the fate of the planets or sector. There will also be no rewards of extra CP or stratagems given as the campaign progresses for those playing at home. But you can always agree on your own with your opponent based on how the campaign is unfolding.

The Ordo Motivatus wish you luck as you commence the War for Novacastrium.
May the Emperor guide you.
