Unleash The Dragon!
Sitting in all gamer’s houses is a stash. Your stash might be smaller than some. You may have hidden it from your partner. But it’s there somewhere. Maybe you dig into it on a regular basis. Maybe you admire it from afar. At some point, you probably tell yourself you don’t need it all. You might have even tried to sell some of it. Eventually, you come back to it though. It’s an addiction! One that’s hard to let go of and why should you. It’s fun! But now it’s time to unleash the dragon!
I compare my stash of plastic to a dragon’s hoard of gold. I’m continually adding to it and I never want to let it go. I often say to the guys “Whoever dies with the most miniatures wins!” Now is the time to put some colour on all this plastic though.
Motivation to paint
Everything is easier if you have someone pushing you. If you want to get fit you get a personal trainer to keep you motivated. Playing in a team your coach spurs you on. Unfortunately for many gamers, it’s hours upon hours of isolation as we work through our armies. It does mean in the current climate we have plenty to do inside but for me, I need more. I need some motivation.
Books and images related to the games are great. That’s why I have a Horus Heresy army waiting to be painted! If I don’t have a carrot dangling in front of me though I often get sidetracked and off task. Often my best motivation is painting something for a tournament or competition. That won’t be happening for a while though so I need something to keep me going daily so I can get through these models. My painting to purchase ratio needs to improve! That’s why I threw down the challenge to the guys. “Can you paint an army a month and keep this going long term?”
A three-headed monster
I figured this would be a friendly little challenge between a couple of mates but it grew quickly. As soon as I raised the idea people wanted to know about it and see what we are doing. As soon as the guys agreed, the trash-talking began.
“Out of the three of us, I will bring the speed into painting. In one day I can knock out a shit tonne of stuff.”
So the beast was unleashed and here we are. Fury, Fairy, and Sparky. Three blokes and a shit tonne of models to paint. This month the armies being worked on are:
Sparky – Tyranids
Fairy – Adeptus Titanicus Titans
Fury – Dragon Ogors
Check back tomorrow as we begin to introduce the guys.
