Distracting Wolves

Warhammer 40000
Fury's Space Wolf Terminator progress

Fury has been very quiet with progress updates of late. Something has been distracting him. It turns out he has been working on a little side project of Wolves. Why have the Wolves been distracting Fury?

After deciding to focus all his efforts on his display board this month. Which led to the #ItsNotaForceFury. Fury has been quietly working on some Space Wolves. Space Wolves were always a first love type army for Fury as he described back at the start of this whole blog. It seems you always return to your first gaming love.

This time around he is adding some new plastic to the old classic! Using arms from the new terminator kits on his old metal terminators. It is looking pretty damn fine! Distraction can be a great way to spice up the painting routine. Also, it is something we are all guilty of at times. So we thought it was just Fury taking some time to show love to his old army. Also assuming he has plenty of time as he was so far ahead with his terrain. It seems though that the reason for this distraction is a little deeper. Let’s take a dive inside Fury’s head.

Fury’s Thoughts

So, I have been soul searching. This painting competition sparked a nerve. Can I actually still paint? I mean top quality. Podium type quality. Well, sadly, no. When I was at Adepticon I had a look at the Crystal Brush Awards. That day crushed any small hope I had that I was a top tier painter.

Then I started playing Infinity and that was another blow. Those guys are good! So I reverted to my sweet spot. Quick, good and done. Now I have to compete against my oldest friends. I have to perform! Even more than just give it a try. So, I’ve gone back to an army I know better than the back of my hand. Trying to build up my skills again ready for this competition. Here I am, 3 to 8 hrs later. Layers! So many layers! I started doing what I did best, quick, neat and to the point. NO! Must do better! So I darkened it up looking for that pop. It ain’t no crystal brush. Though I’m becoming ok with my level again.

Taking Painting Seriously

So it seems as though Fury is taking this classic miniature paint off very seriously indeed. Getting out old miniatures to practise on and build painting skills back up. It’s like a Rocky movie where he goes back into training for the big fight. There has been no mention of how the other two are fairing but after seeing this I think the stakes have been raised.
